What is the Covid Nineteen project?

Teens mentor elementary school students to keep them motivated and active during quarantine, as well as taking stress off parents by providing daily activity sessions and one-on-one tutoring.

Where do I sign up?

Click the "Sign Up" button at the top of the activities page. This will take you to a Google Form with a list of all of the activities for the week.

Is there any cost for this programming?

Everything offered by this project is completely free!

what is the deadline to sign my child up for a session?

Please make sure to sign up by 9pm PST the night before the session. This deadline must be met in order to receive the necessary Zoom links and information for the session.

can a child sign up for multiple activities a day?

Yes! A child can sign up for as many activities as they want!

What do I do If I need to Cancel a class I signed up for?

If your child is unable to attend a session that they signed up for, there is no need to notify us; simply disregard the email containing the Zoom information

Can siblings join a session together on the same device?

Children can join their sessions together or separately, either works

How does our programming work?

We offer daily tutoring sessions in English, Math, Science, and History. We also offer activities from 9:00 am to 5 pm PT every day (excluding holidays).

What are some of the activities available?

Our activities range from academic activities such as read aloud, coding, and journaling, to art activities, and exercises.

What measures are taken to ensure the safety of my child during these sessions?

All of our live sessions are taught by high school volunteers who have experience working with kids and high-achieving academic & community service qualifications. Before the Zoom session, parents give their digital signature with a consent form to allow for the use of cameras and microphone, in order to ensure the safety of both our students and mentors. None of the sessions are recorded (so there is not a privacy issue).

Do I need to sign a consent form for each class?

No, the consent form only needs to be signed once.

How can I sign up my child for a session?

Go on the activities or tutoring page of our website and submit which dates and times your child will be attending sessions. After filling out the attached Google Form, you will be sent a Zoom link. Please sign up your children for sessions at least the night before each session is scheduled.

What should I do if I want to sign up for additional classes after I have already submitted the google form?

If you'd like to sign up for additional classes after submitting a google form response, we ask that you fill out the google form again with any additions.

How do the tutoring sessions work?

Students arrive to the Zoom call and are placed in a "waiting room." Based on the help they type that they need in the chat, they are paired with a teen mentor tutor in a "break out room."

Can someone from out of california go to the sessions or be a teen mentor?

Yes! While all of our sessions are hosted on Pacific Time, as long as you are aware of that, you can still participate as a student or teen mentor.

Where are sessions held?

Sessions will be held through Zoom. Parents will receive the login information 2 hours prior to the session for each session they sign up for.

how will my student join the zoom for the sessions?

Two hours prior to the activity your child is signed up for, emails will be sent containing links for the corresponding Zoom meetings.

what are the newsletters about?

The newsletters will contain information about the week's upcoming events, including new activities.

Who are the teen mentors?

We are teenagers in high school and college who have undergone an application process and orientation calls to ensure we can provide quality, educational, and age appropriate activities and tutoring sessions.

What is the process to become a teen mentor?

Submit an application through the Google Form on our "Volunteer" page. You will be informed of the decision of your acceptance or rejection on June 6th for this round of applications.
